I have just been sent this article which I found very interesting.
I have been trying to trace what happened to my GreatGrandfather
James Welsh after the death of his wife Jeanie in 1904 leaving five children but nothing was heard of James. I recently found through one of the childrens birth certificate that she was born in a caravan at Vinegar Hill which was a bit of a breakthrough as I knew he was a traveller but didn't have any proof. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me a little bit more about the show people from about the early 1900. Sylvia Thompson

Good to see you back. One thing that leaves itself open to your approach is the nature of pubs in a community. The accumulated ephemera inside and the relations ot the surroundings.
I have been taking photos of the inside of Glasgow bars ( http://borrachoeneldia.blogspot.com/ ) ( the name is my take on "Drunk on the day" in spanish ) . Think of a dialectogram of , say, The Laurieston and the history and surroundings as well as the links of the pictures on the walls and the design of the structure to the nature of drinkers , new and old. Also "The Steps bar" etc.

I was very interested in your article and your references to Biddalls Bridge.
I am at present researching the history of the bridge and rying to find proof of the generous donation by your G.G. Grandparents. I am at present researchingn the Council Minutes of that period, but as yet have found no mention of the donation. Can you help in any way?

Hi Mitch
sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, been busy though not by the sound of it quite as busy as you!
I wrote not long ago here on my own place charts - the Green Street textile shop in London. You mentioned possibly meeting, in fact I'll be in Glasgow around late September, is there anyway we can meet up around Sept 26th for a chat?
Might be easier to continue this conversation by email.
Good wishes
